We arrived back from Sicily yesterday. When I think back on our little holiday, I think mostly about colour: in particular beautiful shades of blue. They seemed to be everywhere we looked!
I also loved the blowsy pops of colour from the bougainvillea and the thousands of pots of geraniums that lined every available wall, balcony and step!
And the sky! Full of fluffy, white clouds, was quite ethereal.
The above shot was taken from the terrace of a hotel in Taormina. When we are in a place that is shockingly expensive, such as Taormina, we find a posh hotel with a great view and stop for a cocktail. It will be an expensive cocktail but it is worth it for the views and the experience. We will then go somewhere out of town to eat because the food will be more authentic and much cheaper. That way we find we maximise the experience without spending a fortune.
Being the end of May, the mountains were still lush and green. This is is the road that leads to Farza D’Agro, the village where we stayed. I think it is fair to say that the inhabitants of the area were saved much pain and annoyance by the fact that only my husband was insured to drive on those crazy hairpin bends!
That’s him having great fun driving our hire car. When the company offered us a convertible Fiat 500 we jumped at the chance. Nothing seemed more appropriate!
Very, very little stitching got done. I did make a little progress on my blue satin stitch project whilst on the beach. The colours seemed to suit the surroundings very well.
Sicily is like an entirely different country to where we live in Northern Italy. The culture, the language and the food vary greatly from our experience here. Speaking of food, our Northern Italian friends rave about Sicilian food. As our friend Gabriele put it, “I go to Sicily for the food, the sun, sea and sand are a nice addition!” We made some pretty amazing food discoveries…..but I think that will have to be for another post!
Back soon!
The shot with the clouds reflected on the glass table is beautiful. Nicely done
