Ambrosia Stitches

Having felt that we were on the verge of moving for absolutely ages, it feels good to finally say that we have arrived in Sicily. On Wednesday we packed up the car and started the long journey from the top right hand corner of Italy, down, down, down to the bottom left hand corner.

We stopped off for the night in the beautiful city of Siena and took a couple of hours to have a look around in the morning. Sadly it was a rather dull day so my pictures really don’t capture just how lovely it all was.

We want to head back there in the summer and appreciate it under a blue sky when it bakes in the sun. Nonetheless, it made a charming break.

We also got the chance to enjoy some romantic, misty Tuscan landscape.

It was interesting to spend a morning the kind of scenes most us probably think of when we imagine Italy.  Even more fascinating, we ended the day in Naples, where we caught the ferry, which felt like entering an entirely different world. Although we didn’t get time to see a great deal of it, the city struck us bustling, multi-cultural and more than a little rough around the edges! The roads and the way everyone drove required nerves of steel.

After spending twelve hours on the ferry we woke up the next morning in Catania.

It was exciting to get our first look at our new home.  We were charmed to see the delicate plume of smoke issuing from Mount Etna.  Very soon after however, we discovered that it had actually erupted for the first time in a number of years!  By the time we had disembarked and driven to our new home outside of Catania, that plume of smoke looked like this:

It made quite a welcome to Sicily!

We are settling into our new apartment very quickly.  Dispite all the packing mayhem, there has been a lot of creativity going on – I just haven’t had time to blog about it!  I will be back very soon to share more about my stitching exploits.
